qhorinhalfhand:

cant believe hotd showrunners read fire & blood and were like what if we make the dance of the dragons a lesbian divorce drama.

starkwoes:

Whether you hate Alicent, or love her, house of the dragon deciding to highlight her as a victim of her father and the patriarchal society she was reared in is not in the least bit bad. People’s insistence on being “faithful” to fire and blood’s depiction when it is a book purposefully written by misogynistic characters (years after the dance), and their own biases, is terrible reading comprehension at best, misogyny at worst. Do people hear themselves when they’re caping for a purposefully constructed two dimensional evil step-mother character? In the same vein as Cersei Lannister, Alicent is a victim and an offender. GRRM thanked Lena Headey for displaying her villainy and victimhood better than he did in writing. Drawing a moral line against people who find Alicent interesting while they stan male characters just as bad is hypocrisy at its finest.

In general, the policing that goes on in the fandom when it comes to stanning ANY of the female characters is toxic, pathetic and very obviously drenched in misogyny and internalized misogyny. Take deep breaths, maybe think about the characters and story more deeply and actually enjoy yourselves instead of being miserable hypocrites.
